Emergency lighting systems are compulsory in many places, such as official buildings and workplaces, so that in the unlikely event of a power failure people can find their way around safely. Safety and escape route luminaires provide enough light to shut machinery down, use the escape routes and give quick access to fire extinguishers and other safety equipment. They prevent panic and save lives.

Wireless Emergency System – Emergency lighting made easy

Tridonic has an answer to the increasingly stringent maintenance and testing regulations that apply to emergency lighting. The new wireless emergency system based on Tridonic´s secure basicDIM Wireless solution can be integrated into existing installations in compliance with existing standards and without additional wiring. It also offers advantages in new buildings. In addition to lower complexity regarding planning and commissioning, it also reduces the time and materials required – and thus the total cost of the installation.

Wireless Emergency Overview

 

Every emergency lighting installation needs to be regularly tested and its status documented. This process is in many cases very labour and cost intensive. With the Tridonic wireless emergency system these steps are all done automatically and reports are available at the push of a button, at the same time making the planning and installation phase intuitive and easy.

By using the well-established backbone of the basicDIM Wireless system, the wireless emergency system uses a failsafe Bluetooth Mesh network. With the addition of a basicDIM Wireless module, every DALI emergency luminaire can easily be converted to be used in the wireless emergency system. A gateway connects all the wireless emergency luminaires to a sceneCOM evo. A single controller can be used to connect up to 192 emergency luminaires.

For larger installations it is possible to link up to 200 sceneCOM evo units with the em-LINK v2 server application. It collects the information from all the sceneCOM evo units on a single page.

Batteries for greater safety

All emergency lighting batteries from Tridonic are subject to rigorous testing. Only high-quality batteries which guarantee the desired duration even after years of operation are used. This ensures that maintenance cycles can be kept to a minimum.

For the wide range of emergency lighting LED drivers, all three battery types (1. NiCd, 2. the more environmentally friendly NiMH and 3. the long-lasting LiFePO4) are offered.

The charge controllers for the LED drivers differ according to the type of battery and are designed specifically for the different technologies (voltage-dependent charging for LiFePO4, constant-current charging for NiCd and intermittent charging for NiMH). This guarantees the least possible energy consumption combined with optimal battery service life.
 

Constant high quality

The consistently high quality and reliability of the Tridonic emergency lighting units are guaranteed by the use of high-grade materials together with manufacturing processes certified to ISO 9001. Fully automatic manufacture ensures constant reproducible quality. All units are subjected to 100 % final testing and safety testing.
 

Standards and approval marks

Emergency lighting units from Tridonic are ENEC certified, carry the CE, RCM and C-Tick marks and meet all European and international standards relating to safety, operation and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). In addition to the standard testing requirements, all emergency units from Tridonic carry the BSI Kitemark™, a highly respected approval mark for high-quality products in emergency lighting.
 

Simplified testing with ST units

The EM SELFTEST emergency lighting unit with its automatic testing algorithms offers intelligence in an extremely small format.

In selftest mode the module uses a light-emitting diode to signal its operating status. Green means that the emergency lighting system is operating correctly. A red flashing LED indicates faulty batteries and a permanent red light indicates a lamp fault.

The test functions supported by the EM SELFTEST emergency lighting unit are continual monitoring, a weekly function test and an annual service life test. In charging mode both the charging conditions and the static battery stats are monitored.

The EM SELFTEST emergency lighting unit includes functionality for monitoring the installation phase, which is a period of time with an uninterrupted power supply on more than five successive days. As soon as this requirement is met, the module automatically starts the commissioning and testing program. EM SELFTEST therefore complies with the post-installation commissioning test prescribed in accordance with the selftest standard defined in IEC 62034. This degree of automation considerably reduces the time needed for commissioning and programming the test algorithms.
 

Combination of emergency lighting and DALI

Thanks to the DALI communication standard, Tridonic emergency lighting components in the PRO range can easily be integrated into a monitored lighting and emergency lighting system. Tridonic supplements the general benefits of a DALI system with special highlights, such as the patented easy addressing system and scalable control systems – from the compact control unit through to the PC software.
